Jessica Verhagen Named to the 2021 Clean 50

Hydra Energy is very proud to announce that Jessica Verhagen
was named in the Clean Technology category for the
2021 Clean50 list

Canada’s Clean50 Awards are announced annually by Delta Management Group and the Clean50 organization to recognize those 50 individuals or small teams, from 16 different categories, who have done the most to advance the cause of sustainability and clean capitalism in Canada over the past 2 years. Delta’s criteria in determining Honourees is to carefully consider actual measurable accomplishments, demonstrated innovation, collaboration with other organizations, and the power of the Honouree’s contribution to inspire other Canadians to take similar action.

With a record high 900 nominees for 2021, the process to narrow the list to 50 was extremely difficult. Says Gavin Pitchford, CEO, Delta Management Group, “The great news is that there are many wonderful and committed leaders in organizations across Canada, working in many different fields, who are concerned about the course of Canada’s future if we don’t all take action quickly. These individuals are rarely waiting for regulations to drive their organizations forward – but are leading by example and strategically harnessing sustainability as a force for innovation within their organizations.   The individuals we chose for the Clean50 this year are true leaders, and should be an inspiration for all Canadians.”

Gavin continued, “Jessica Verhagen was chosen after rigourous screening and research by Delta Management, with advice from internal researchers and external advisors. The Clean50 honourees come from such a broad array of backgrounds, such that only a few individuals are able to be recognized within any given category.  To receive a Clean50 award is truly indicative of both industry and personal leadership in the Cleantech category”.

When considering why Jessica was chosen specifically, Clean50 included this in their website:

The biggest stumbling block to widespread hydrogen (H2) fuel adoption is a chicken-and-egg problem: People won’t buy H2-powered vehicles because there are no fueling stations, and fueling stations won’t be built because not enough vehicles are H2 powered. Jessica brought a solution to this problem to market by offering green H2 to truck fleets with no up-front costs, greenhouse gas emission reductions of up to 40% and an easy conversion for existing vehicles that doesn’t compromise their warranty or performance. Hydra Energy just announced their first chemical partnership that locks in the hydrogen supply for fleets at prices below diesel. From her roles in government, impact funds and cleantech companies, Jessica has championed new business models that scale cleantech and natural capital.

Assuming COVID restrictions have been relaxed, Jessica Verhagen will be amongst approximately 120 past and incoming Clean50 Honourees meeting on Thursday September 30th  at the “Clean50 Summit 10.0” in Toronto, to spend a day amongst peers and colleagues tackling critical sustainability challenges facing Canada. Hydra Energy would like to congratulate all of the other members of 2021’s Clean50. We are so pleased to share the category with Karen Schuett of Livestock Water Recycling and Ben Nyland of Loop Energy Inc.. We are happy to be in such great company!
